Charles W. Rowell age 76 of Zumbrota died suddenly on November 26, 2007 in the woods near his home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, December 3, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Wesleyan Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Janet Fischer, PAsor Sarah Nietz and Pastor Marvin Sandness officiating. Visitation is Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Charles Willard Rowell was born on October 18, 1931 in Zumbrota, MN to Wilbur and Bertha (nee Beebe) Rowell. He grew up in rural Zumbrota, attended country school and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1949. He attended Bartlesville Wesleyan College and Marion Wesleyan College. On May 15, 1957 he entered the U.S. Army. On March 12, 1960 he married Dora Jane Manantan in Hawaii. They made their home all over the world and Charles served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1977. While in the Army he earned his bachelors degree from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. After his discharge they returned to Zumbrota to live and he earned his masters degree in Personal Management from Central Michigan University. He then started working for Green Thumb Inc. and retired from there in 1997. Charles was a member of the 65/50 Club in Zumbrota, the Quamme VFW Post #186 in Wanamingo and a life member of the OCS (Officers Candidate School) Club. He enjoyed being active in the Republican Party. Charles is survived by his wife Dora Jane of Zumbrota, three sisters, Margaret Jamieson of Independence, IA, Mary (Eldon) Jamieson of Brooksville, FL, and Anna (Carl) Jackson of Tucson, AZ, two brothers, Walter (Julia) Rowell of Corinth, TX and Joe Rowell of Carson City, NV, two daughters by his first marriage, Becky (Mike) Sells and Judy Hamilton and four grandchildren, Chad and Bradley Sells and Jason and Shelley Hamilton and three great grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Rowell.
