Charles "Chuck" Albert Harrington, Jr., 92, of Red Wing died Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Fairview Seminary Home. He was born on March 7, 1917, in Red Wing to Charles and Marie (Cummings) Harrington, Sr. His mother died at a young age and he was raised by his grandmother, Carrie. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1936 and during high school he had joined the National Guard. He joined the Marines after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and had served in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant on March 29, 1950. On June 28, 1948, he was married to Jean Saupe at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. For 42 years he worked for ADM in Red Wing, retiring in 1981. He played football and baseball as a young man and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers. He was a member of the Local Union AFL/CIO, serving as treasurer for many years.
Survivors include his wife Jean; one daughter, Sandra (Scott) Benedict of Bethel Island, Calif. and one son Bob (Wyla) Harrington of Maple Grove; four grandchildren, Carrie (Shane) Miller, Bill O'Connor, Mackenzie and Jackson Harrington and two great grandchildren, Chloe and Violet Miller. He was preceded in death by two brothers Jerry and Rollie Harrington.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Elg officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
