ROCHESTER - Charles W. "Chuck" Hardtke, 84, of Rochester, died Friday (May 6, 2011) at Maple Manor Health Care Center from congestive heart failure.
Charles William Hardtke was born Feb. 20, 1927 in Viola Township, Olmsted County, Minnesota to William and Anna (Loos) Hardtke. He was raised in the Cedar Beach area on the Zumbro River near Oronoco, MN, and attended country schools. He married Margaret Christensen of Dover, MN in 1948, she died in 1981. Chuck was a long-time over the road truck driver and was Director of Contract Services for International Transport of Dallas, TX. He married Faye Shillingburg in Dallas in October of 1982. He retired the same year and the couple moved to Rochester in 1983 where he was a shuttle driver for Mayflower Transport at IBM Rochester. He was a member of the Eagles Club of Rochester. He enjoyed dairy farming in his early years, fishing, and spending winters in Mexico. Chuck donated tissue to the Mayo Clinic for research in Lewy-Body dementia.
Survivors include his wife Faye; his daughter Linda (Victor) Davidson of Jackson, MS; four sons Charles (Mary Ellen) of Duluth, MN; William (Yanira) of Denver, CO; Warren (Cyndy) of Rochester; and Dan (Kaarin) of Maple Grove, MN; fourteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren Jack and Charlie Lambert; and two sisters Annette (Lowell) Urban of Eyota, MN; and Mary Pedersen of St. Charles, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private graveside services were held at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
