Charles Jacob Hanson, 86, of Red Wing, died Thursday, August 18, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born July 7, 1925 in Pepin County, Wisconsin to Christian and Cora (Schruth) Hanson. He attended Hicks Valley School near Pepin, Brazington School in Maiden Rock, Olivet School in Spring Valley and then Spring Valley High School until the spring of 1941. On September 28, 1948 he married Dorothy Strusz. Together they farmed near Pepin for one year before moving to Vasa where they farmed until 1965. He then worked for the Vasa and Goodhue Creameries. In 1967 he began working for the S.B. Foot Tannery, retiring in 1990. Dorothy died February 2, 2009. He was a member of Vasa Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, taking care of his lawn, music, socializing with friends and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by children, Arvin (Corrine) Hanson of Plainview, Duane (Marilyn) Hanson of Red Wing, Rodney (Lucy) Hanson of Portage, Wis., Linda (Stan) Lundell of Cannon Falls, Brenda (Larry "Curly") Holst of Zumbrota, Kevin (Martha) Hanson of Red Wing, Marlys (Kevin) Davis of Cannon Falls, Janelle (Tom) Ahern of Red Wing, and Lavonne (Brian) Boch of Park Ridge, Ill.; special nephew, Ron (Kathy) Strusz of Red Wing; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Marlin Hanson of Mesa, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; one sister, Bernice Traynor and one brother, Loyall Hanson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at Vasa Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristi Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to service at the church.
