Charles Fredrik Eickhoff

Funeral services for Charles Eickhoff will be held Thursday October 30th at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rochester. The Reverend Fred Rengstorf will officiate. Burial, with military rites provided by VFW Post 1218, will follow at the East Saint Olaf Lutheran Church Cemetery near Rock Dell. Mr. Eickhoff, 80, died Sunday October 26, 2014 at Golden Living Rochester East.
Charles Fredrick Eickhoff was born November 20, 1933 in Wykoff, Minnesota, the son of Fredrick and Emma (nee Kohlmeyer) Eickhoff. Raised in Wykoff, he was a graduate of the public schools there. Following graduation, Charles entered the U.S. Air Force, served as a supply clerk to the officers during the Korean War, and was discharged in February 1961. He married Ruth Johnson on May 12, 1962 at East Saint Olaf Lutheran Church. Charles owned and operated Wayside Grocery in Southeast Rochester for five years. Then, for a few years, he drove a taxi cab and worked for Rochester City Lines. He became a custodian at Saint Mary's Hospital, and eventually became the Supervisor of custodians at Mayo Clinic. He retired in 1994 with more than twenty years of service to the Mayo Clinic, and in retirement he became a school bus driver. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the VFW, and the American Legion.
Charles is survived by his wife Ruth Eickhoff of Rochester; a son Bradley (Linda) Eickhoff of Rochester; a daughter Brenda (Gary) Vandal of Rochester; a grandson Cory Vandal of Byron; and a sister Emily Bratager of La Crescent, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
