Charles Carlson

Charles "Charlie" A. Carlson, 56, of Zumbrota, died Sunday at Methodist Hospital in Rochester. He was born on September 27, 1950, in Red Wing, to Virgil and Pauline (Smith) Carlson. He graduated in 1968 from Red Wing Central High School. For six years he served in the National Guard. On October 7, 1972, he married Randi Dahling at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue. He farmed and raised hogs, did carpentry work and for the past 10 years has worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation doing highway maintenance. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he currently was serving as an elder and the Goodhue Lions Club. He was scorekeeper for the Goodhue Girls Basketball team and enjoyed attending his nieces and nephews events, spending time with his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Survivors include his wife Randi; his mother, Pauline Carlson of Vasa; four siblings, Terry (LaVonne) of Vasa, Carol (Jeff) Bengtson of Burnsville, David (Mary) and Michael (Hettie) Carlson all of Vasa; 16 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews; two sister-in-laws, Deborah (David) Gnotke and Roxanne (Richard) Lodermeier all of Goodhue and one brother-in-law, Michael (Robin) Dahling of Goodhue. He was preceded in death by his father on June 25, 2005.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue with Rev. Andrew Krause officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ross Gnotke, Brent and Tyler Lodermeier, Lucas Dahling, Robert Carlson and Jerod Thomforde. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan and Adam Bengtson, Chad Hanson, Christopher Mann and Zachary Carlson. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and at the church one hour prior to the service.
