Charles C. Hanson, age 72, of rural Kenyon died suddenly at home on Thursday morning, May 22, 2008. His family will announce a memorial gathering at his home at a later date.

Charles Christian Hanson was born on September 20, 1935 in Deer River, MN to Theodore and Bernice (nee Mostoller) Hanson. He grew up in Deer River and graduated from Deer River High School in 1953. Charles started attended the University of Minnesota. On September 14, 1957 he married Karen M. Purinton in St. Paul. Charles graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1959.They made their home in the Twin Cities for a short time before moving to South Bend, IN. Charles worked for Bendix Aviation. After several years at Bendix, Charles started working for the IBM Corporation in Rochester. His family lived in Rochester for many years. While working for IBM, Charles earned his masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. He held many patents and disclosures and had many articles published. Charles retired from IBM in 1983. He loved his family, his horse and old cars.
Charles is survived by his wife, Karen, his children, Lee Hanson of Hayfield, Jamie Hanson of Seward, AK, Jeff (Shawna) Hanson of Pine Island and Amarah (Tanveer) Makhdumi of Karachi, Pakistan and West Concord, twelve grandchildren, two great grandsons, sister, Linda Sutherland of Bemidji and brother, David F. (Viv) Hanson of Stillwater. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Richard, Jean, Jerrold and Dallas Hanson.

The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.

Cremation arrangements were handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
