Charlene M. Hanson, age 78, of Zumbrota, died on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on July 22, 1935, in Milton Township, Dodge County, to Charles and Mabel (nee Kourt) Schiesser. Charlene graduated from Pine Island High School in 1953. After high school she worked for Dr. E. A. Olson and Dr. Maxwell Thoreson in Pine Island. On April 28, 1962, she married Duane Hanson at Zwingli Church of Christ in Berne. In 1962, they started farming in the Pine Island area. In 1968, they moved to a farm located between Zumbrota and Wanamingo where they farmed for over 40 years and raised their family. In 2013, they moved into Zumbrota. Charlene was very active at Stordahl Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed taking care of her family and friends in need over the years. Charlene adored her grandchildren and loved to attend their many activities. She enjoyed time spent with her coffee ladies, Granny Basketball Team, playing cards, and mowing lawn.
Charlene is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Duane; sons, Eric (Maria) Hanson of New Hope, MN, Judd (Amy) Hanson of La Crosse, WI; grandchildren, Kaylee and Alyssa Hanson, Josie and Ben Hanson; sister, Barb Enerson of Pine Island; many nieces and nephews.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Milo and Russell Schiesser; sisters, Margaret Keane and Elrose Schiesser who died in infancy.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Stordahl Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota with Pastor Kathleen Lowery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stordahl Lutheran Church Cemetery Association or to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
