Cecilia Magdalena Sycks, 96, of Red Wing, died Saturday August 1, 2015 at her residence at Deer Crest. She was born on July 16, 1919, on the family farm in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin to John and Mary (Scholz) Diesing. She attended schools in Wisconsin and on October 9, 1948, she married Murlin C. Sycks in Plum City. For nine years she worked at the Maiden Rock Post Office and then for 17 years at Haven Homes in Red Wing. She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph. Her family recalls how important family was to her and the fun times they had together, especially going to her nieces' cabins with many relatives, where she always enjoyed visiting and going 4-wheeling up until her middle 80's.
Survivors include her husband, Murlin at Deer Crest; two sons, Douglas and Grant and two daughters, Barbara (Joel) Hanson and Karleen (Scott) Shellum all of Red Wing; four grandchildren, Trina Marsh, Kurtis Hanson, Emily Shellum and Andrew Shellum; one great grandchild, Allison Marsh and another one due this month along with several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Joe, John and Francis.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
