Cecil Everette Cage age 82 of Rochester, formerly of Zumbrota died on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church, 560 West 3rd Street, Zumbrota with Reverend Tom Isaacson officiating. Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Cecil Everette Cage was born on September 18, 1928 in Spencer, IA to Cecil W. and Velma I. (Spencer) Cage. He grew up in rural Dodge Center. On May 23, 1959 he married Shirley Bjerkvig at United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. They lived in several communities in southeastern Minnesota before settling in Zumbrota in 1972. Cecil worked as a truck driver, both over the road and mainly for construction companies. He also farmed while driving truck. Shirley died on January 31, 2008. Cecil enjoyed playing cards, bowling, fishing, gardening, tinkering with a project on the farm and the farm animals, especially the dogs and cats. Cecil is survived by his children, Patsy (Ron) Elgas of Cedar Rapids, IA, Brent (Barb) Cage of Lake Wells, FL, Matt (Deb) Cage of Bagley, MN and Kelly (Jim) Owens of Rochester; six grandchildren, William, Robert, Elisabeth and Walker Cage and Glason and Cami Owens. Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, son, Chris, his parents Cecil and Velma and his brother, Gene Cage. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice.
