Carole L. Gjemse age 66 of Zumbrota died on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Kenyon Sunset Home. A Celebration of Carole's Life will be on Thursday, April 1, 2010 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
Carole LaDon Nygaard was born on June 22, 1943 in Red Wing, MN to Harry L. and Alberta P. (nee Wellvang) Nygaard. She grew up in Zumbrota and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1961. Carole attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. She married LeRoy Gjemse and they later divorced. Carole moved to Owatonna and worked for the State of Minnesota, did auto detailing and bartended. In 1978 Carole moved back to Zumbrota and started bartending for the Zumbrota Municipal Liquor Store. A work injury forced Carole to retire early and she did part time work for Target in Rochester. Carole enjoyed being with her grandchildren, gardening, painting and rosemaling, playing cards, her computer, tinkering with her house and she was an avid Twins fan.
Carole is survived by her sons, Jamie Gjemse of Zumbrota and Peter (Beth) Gjemse of Cleveland, MN; four grandchildren, Matt, Cody, Megan and Holly Gjemse; great granddaughter, Charli Gjemse; sister, Janice Olson of Zumbrota; and two brothers, Ron (Corinne) Nygaard and Harlan (Sarah) Nygaard, both of Zumbrota.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Alberta and son, Jody.
