Carole Jean Erickson

Carole Jean (Anderson) Erickson, 76, died Tuesday, October 15th at her Red Wing home. She was born on August 14, 1937 in Red Wing, Minnesota to Clarence Olaf and Regina C. (Thomforde) Anderson.

She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1955 and attended the University of Minnesota and Gustavus Adolphus College, later receiving her degree in English Literature from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

She married John W. Erickson of Red Wing. The couple resided briefly in St. Paul before moving to Duluth, where they resided for 28 years.

While living in Duluth, she actively volunteered in the community. She served as president of the Newcomers Club and President of the Condon Park PTA. As a member of the Duluth Superior Symphony Auxiliary, she served on their board of directors. She was a member of the American Association of University Woman for over 35 years, most recently with the Red Wing branch.
Professionally, she worked with the Mission to Seafarers on the Duluth waterfront, St. Luke's Hospital in the chaplaincy, and as church/financial secretary for First Lutheran Church in Duluth.
She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Duluth serving as Secretary of the church council and chairman of the Project 80's building committee.

In 1986, they moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was active in the Christian Women's Club, and for a period of time served as president. For thirteen years, she was a member of the board of directors for the Minnesota Orchestra at the College of St. Benedicts, during which time she facilitated the "Classics for Kids" program and served two terms as president. She represented the St. Benedict Orchestra Board on the greater Minnesota Orchestra Board of Directors in Minneapolis. She loved fishing at the family cabin and enjoyed spending time working in her flower garden.

She is survived by her husband John of Red Wing; her son David J. (Jessica-Dawn) Erickson of Red Wing; her brother Earle C. (Shanna) Anderson of Menomonee; three grandchildren, Danielle L. (Derek) Eiklenborg, Carolyn D. Erickson, Andrew J. Erickson; and four great-grandchildren, Addison, Zoe, Isabel and Rory Eiklenborg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Doris M. Schmidt, and one infant son.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 21, 2013 at United Lutheran Church. Burial will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the American Association of University Women.
