Carol Jean Miller

Carol Jean Miller, 86, of Red Wing, passed away January 22, 2020 peacefully with family by her side. She was born at home on April 3, 1933 in Dennison, MN to Henry and Selma (Svien) Dodes. She attended schools in Dennison, White Rock, Zumbrota and graduated from Red Wing Central High in 1950. Carol attended Red Wing Vocational Technical College in June of 1987 and graduated with an associate's degree in word processing. She married Willard (Bill) Miller on October 1, 1954 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Together they raised 6 children in Belvidere Township, Goodhue, MN. Bill passed away November 22, 1998. The Miller children were truly blessed to grow up on a farm and learn good work ethics. Almost daily her children came home from school to fresh baked goods (especially bread) and superb meals prepared by Carol. She enjoyed cooking, baking, music, collecting Red Wing Pottery, attending her children's activities, especially grandchildren time at the farm and any other family visits.
She is survived by two daughters, Wanda (Richard) Johnson and Sandy Miller all of Red Wing; two sons Mark Miller of Beldenville, WI and Richard (Kellie) of Randolph, MN; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Jerod) Gernentz, Weston Johnson, Ben, Ellie, Zach, Riley and Rachael Miller; one great-granddaughter, Grace Gernentz; one sister, Elaine Karmarkovic of Bakersfield, CA; one brother, Lyle (Lita) Dodes of Frazee, MN; two step-sisters, Ellen Stoltz and Linnea McRae.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bill; daughter, Anita Miller-Mulhall; son, Michael Miller; brother, Harlan Dodes and her parents.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Concordia Lutheran Church with Reverend Tyge Zucker officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery following the service.
