Carol Olava (Synstad) Iverson

Carol Olava Iverson, 76, of Red Wing, died Monday, December 28, 2020 at Deercrest with her husband by her side. She was born March 20, 1944 to Theodore and Alice (Kleiner) Synstad in Wabasha. She grew up in western Wisconsin and attended school in Mondovi, graduating in 1962. After high school she moved to Eau Claire, where she worked as a telephone operator. She met John Iverson at a dance while he was on leave from the service and on October 19, 1968 the couple was married at Central Lutheran in Mondovi. The couple made their home in Rosemount, where they raised two daughters. Carol loved children and often helped her friends and neighbors with child care. She also volunteered her home and her time with global medical relief programs that helped children with congenital issues receive the medical care they needed in the United States. Carol and her family enjoyed traveling together. They took camping trips, enjoyed cross country skiing and bike riding. Carol and John enjoyed spending time on the trails on their tandem bike. She was at home in the kitchen and enjoyed making things from scratch. She made wonderful breads and lefsa. She was thoughtful, kind and caring and she shared a wonderful sense of humor with her family.

She is survived by her husband and best friend, John; two daughters, Jodi (Craig) Brunies of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Brenda Navin of Lake Elmo; three grandchildren, Blaine Vonberge, Reagan (Mason) Thorstad, and Macey Vonberge; two sisters, Roberta Cota of Falls Creek, Wis. and Betty Jane (Tom) Patire of East Troy, Wis; and sister-in-law, Sonja Roseth; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Gloria and her parents.

A private family service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021. While the service is private a live steam of the memorial service can be found on the funeral home’s facebook page.
