Carol D. Hansen, age 90 of Zumbrota died on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Zumbrota Health Services. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church, 560 West 3rd Street, Zumbrota with Pastor Nicole Rockne officiating. Burial will be in Stordahl Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Carol Dean Erath was born on March 18, 1929 in Faribault, MN to Earl and Velma (nee Howe) Erath. Carol was baptized at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Berne and confirmed at Hagre Lutheran Church in Kenyon, Carol's family moved to Skyberg in 1935 and she attended kindergarten and country school. In 1948, Carol graduated from West Concord High School. After graduating, Carol worked at the Wunderlich Grocery Store in Kenyon until 1968. On November 23, 1968 she married Vernon L. Hansen, a widower from Zumbrota who had four daughters, Kerry, Randi, Emily and Sara. They made their home on a farm in Roscoe Township until 1993, when they moved to Zumbrota. Carol worked at the Webster Livestock Auction Market restaurant from 1990 to 2003 when the business was purchased by Central Livestock and Carol retired from the restaurant in 2006.
Carol was an active member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church and was Chairperson of the funeral committee for nine years from 1978 to 1987. Carol loved to bowl and was in several leagues from 1949 to 1990. She also enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels, cooking and was known for her baking from scratch.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Kerry Rude of Zumbrota, Randi (Neil) Hansen of Rogers and Emily (Neal) Higgins of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Shannah Witt, Jacob (Christine) Rude, Tom (Nichole) Rude, Evan Weiner, Elliot Weiner and Cathryn (Matt Glimsdale) Longhenry and nine great-grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; sister, Parma Heydmann and daughter, Sara Hansen.
