Carl Zipp, age 91, of Zumbrota, died on Monday September 20, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday September 24, 2010 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Eric Westlake officiating. A visitation without a reviewal will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery.
Carl Zipp was born January 23, 1919 in Minneapolis to Joseph and Clara Zipp. On June 10, 1939 Carl married Helen Rietmann in Iowa. Carl served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. When he returned home he worked owned and operated his own repair shop in Pine Island. In 1957 Carl began working for IBM and after 22 years he retired.
Carl had a love for golfing ever since he was a caddy as a young boy at the Minneapolis Golf Club, and continued to play his whole life. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Carl is a Charter member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stary-Yerka Post #5727 in Zumbrota.
Carl is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen, of Zumbrota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Duane.
