Carl Sommerfield

Carl H. Sommerfield age 89 of Lake City died Monday May 28, 2007 at home.

Carl was born February 4, 1918 in Mazeppa, MN to Henry & Ida (McDonough) Sommerfield. Carl grew up in Mazeppa and married Fern Closner October 25, 1939 at Bear Valley Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Mazeppa area until 1956. Carl and Fern then moved to the Zumbro Falls area where they farmed until 1976, when they retired and moved to Lake City. Carl worked as a care taker for the Lakewood Cemetery Association for 20 years. Fern passed away April 11, 1994. He was a member of the Millville, Zumbro Falls & Mazeppa Senior Citizens Group, and the Sewing Circle. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, eating out with family and friends, and he also loved to dance.

Carl is survived by two daughters, Delores (Vincent) Prebe of Lake City; Ruth Ann (Charles) Lombard of Lake City; four sons, Harold (Karen) of Lake City; David (Shirley) of Frontenac; Allen (Darlene) of Zumbro Falls; Robert (Nancy) of Zumbro Falls; two grandsons that they raised, James (Brenda) of Garden City, MN; Jeff (Marci) of Millville; a sister in law and caregiver Lois Sommerfield; 16 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one brother, Don of Kalispell, MT; three sisters Lucy (Martin) Gardener of Faribault; Bonnie (Paul) Lunde of Hastings; Eva (John) VanDeWalker of Mazeppa. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, and one brother Harry.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday at 11:00 am at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City with the Rev. Bruce Stam officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Friends may also call one hour before the services at the church.
