Carl E. Long, 82, of Red Wing, MN, died at home on June 9, 2019. He was born September 13, 1936 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, North Dakota to parents Lawrence and Agnes Long of York, North Dakota. Carl attended York North Dakota grade school, Leeds North Dakota high school, Minot State University and the University of North Dakota. He received an M.S. degree in Business Administration from UND.
He is survived by his wife Marlys; son Steven Long and wife Cathy; daughter Lisa Olson and husband Tim; Grandchildren Andrea Long and fiancé Brandon Aldinger and Stephanie Williams and husband Jon; Great-Grandchildren Ethan and Anna Williams; Step-Children Gregg Drury, Thomas Drury and wife Julie, Ross Drury and wife Kanyapapat, William (Shawn) Drury, Sara Drury and partner Rosie Kidman, and Elizabeth Drury; Step-Grandchildren Aja Drury, Ronan Drury and Sula Drury; and several nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glenn Long, and his sister Lucille Randle.
Carl taught secondary school and college courses for 5 years after graduating from Minot State. He then spent the next 32 years working as a University Administrator at the University of North Dakota, the Oregon State System of Higher Education, the Minnesota State College and University System, the North Dakota Legislature, the University of Wyoming and the University of Illinois at Springfield. Carl enjoyed family, coffee with friends at the Pottery Mall, athletic events, hunting, fishing, learning new things, watching tv and indulging in Culvers Cherry Shakes. He was an active athlete, participating in high school and college basketball, professional baseball, and handball.
Memorial service will be 12 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2019, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Goodhue County Humane Society. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
