Calvin J. Hill, 85, of Red Wing, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Deer Crest in Red Wing. He was born on October 13, 1925 in Brainerd, Minnesota to John and Caroline (Fremling) Hill. He enlisted in the US Navy and served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart during his time in the service. In 1967 they moved to Red Wing, where he worked for the Minnesota Correctional Facility, retiring the late 1980's. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Fleet Reserve Association, DAV, the Order of the Purple Heart and the Aavark Dart Team. He enjoyed golfing and bird watching.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; five children, David (Sheryl) of Red Wing, Michael (Pattie) of Red Wing, Jeffrey (Deb) of Zumbrota, Bradley (Nancy) of Red Wing and Heidi Hill of Red Wing; eight grandchildren, Katherine, Jordan, Gracie, Jake, Emma, Hanna, Ryan and Tyler Hill; one sister, Doris Kuisi of California and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Manley, Jim, Jerry, Bingy and Kenneth and three sisters, Millie Lien, Bernice Thompson and Elaine Vukelich.
A private service was held. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to American Stroke Association or Deer Crest.
