Burnell N. "Bernie" Lunde age 76 of Wanamingo died on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Dale Lutheran Church in rural Wanamingo with Reverend Paul Reppe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burnell Norris Lunde was born on July 29, 1931 in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue Co., MN to Einar and Mabel (nee Trelstad) Lunde. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1949. On February 3, 1952 he married Patricia Ann Welty at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. They made their home on the Lunde family farm. Bernie started working for the DHIA in Zumbrota in 1962. In 1974 Bernie and Pat moved into Wanamingo. He retired from the DHIA in 1992 after thirty years. They also ran Pat and Bernie's Cafe in Wanamingo for fifteen years. Bernie was a lifelong active member of Dale Lutheran Church, having served on the church council and was treasurer on the cemetery board for many years. He was a former member of the Norseman's Singers. He enjoyed fishing, polka music, dancing, and the Twins and Vikings. Bernie is survived by his wife, Patricia, son, Duane (RoxAnn) Lunde of Wanamingo, daughter, Lorraine (Dave) Osheim of Brandon, SD, five grandchildren, Shane and Sheldon Lunde, Kristin (Jon) McInerney, Megan and Laryssa Osheim and two children he helped raise, Dera and Paul Landry of Rochester and Jody and Dwight Emerson of Saugus, CA, sister in law, Sharyl Lunde of Northwood, IA, nephews and niece, Joel (Carol) Lunde, Jeff (Angie) Lunde, Kirk (Regina) Lunde and Angie Lunde, special caregivers, Sue Owen of Faribault, Tammy Theel of Wanamingo, Laurie Owen of Wanamingo, Jackie Brown Eyes of Zumbrota, Nikki Johnson of Cannon Falls and Katie Hussen of Pine Island. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Einar and Mabel and brother, Einer. The family suggests memorials to the Dale Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund. Arrangements are being handled by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
