Bruce A. Thompson, age 68, of Rochester, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at his home. Bruce Alan Thompson was born Feb. 2, 1950 in Moorhead, MN to Lowell and Norma (Martinson) Thompson. He moved to Rochester in 1965 and graduated from Mayo High School in 1968. Bruce then attended the University of Minnesota where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science. He married Patricia Dettman, they were later divorced. Bruce worked for International Transport and Schneider Trucking before becoming a counselor for the Minnesota Workforce Center in Rochester. He retired in August of 2017 after twenty five years. He was a member of the Sierra Club, the YMCA, and was a volunteer for Channel One. Bruce enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, sports, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons Christopher (Camille) of Kasson, MN; and Matthew (Aubrey) of Rochester; grandchildren Sydney, Piper, and Hadley Thompson, his sister Nancy (Jerry) Finn of Stewartville, MN; and brothers Richard (Melanie) of Cold Spring, MN; and Robert (Tammy) of Hanover, MN, and his "Buddy Dog" Marissa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Cheryl.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Noon on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel with Rev. Steve Rheingans of Christ Lutheran Church of Byron officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service, and a reception will be held following the service. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
