Brett Howard Hamblin, 62, of Hager City, Wisconsin, died suddenly January 28, 2021 at his hotel in Germany where he was currently assigned for his work. He was born October 27, 1958 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota to Dennis and Joann Hamblin. Brett married Corrie (Rasband) on August 20, 1983 in Ogden, Utah and their first two children, Alex and Hollie were born there. They moved to the Red Wing area in 1989 where two more children, Ethan and Gretchen were born. They have lived in Hager City since 1991.
Brett received his Bachelor’s degree at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah and his Masters of Family Therapy at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He was employed by the State of Minnesota Corrections for over 20 years and in addition, he worked to provide marriage and family counseling and therapy to those in need since 1993. He was currently employed by Strategic Resources Inc. who holds a contract with the U.S. Military for counseling military families at home and abroad. His current assignment was at Spangdahlem Air Base near Frankfurt, Germany.
Brett joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was 16 years old and remained a firm believer and teacher for the rest of his life. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and loved doing any and all scouting activities, especially camping and exploring when his two sons were among the participants. Brett also never missed a dance competition or recital for his two daughters who he viewed as the most lovely and talented girls on the face of this earth. Brett participated in many daddy/daughter dances with his girls during their dozen or so years in dance. No amount of missed sleep could keep Brett from attending his children’s school plays, band concerts, sporting events, etc. or from helping a friend in need.
Brett was delighted to welcome two sons-in-law, Brady Wood who married Hollie and Garrett Purvis who married Gretchen. He designated himself and Corrie to be Opa and Oma to the grandchildren as a special remembrance of Brett’s two-year church mission to the Netherlands in 1979-1981. Brett loves his grandsons Jasper, Milo and Wells Wood and longed for Covid-19 restrictions to be lifted so he could finally meet baby Wells.
Brett was proud to be an American and honored our military defenders and protectors. How proud we are that his last several years were spent offering counseling and kind guidance to our country’s military families. Brett loved his family with his whole heart and would sacrifice anything for them. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife Corrie; four children, Alex, Hollie (Brady) Wood, Ethan, Gretchen (Garrett) Purvis; three grandchildren, Jasper, Milo and Wells Wood, his mother Joann (Richard) Atkinson, three siblings, Michael Hamblin, Laurie Hamblin and Nathan Hamblin. He was preceded in death by his father Dennis Hamblin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Red Wing, Minnesota. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the church service. Interment will be at the Diamond Bluff, Wisconsin cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required at the church service.
