Robert O. "Bob" Olson, age 89 of Red Wing died on Friday, November 7, 2008 at his residence. Robert was born on April 11, 1919 in Red Wing to Carl and Margret (Borgen) Olson. He was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church and confirmed at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. He attended Jefferson school and graduated from Red Wing Central High school. Bob served during World War II in the United States Army, Americal Division and the First Cavalry Division in the South Pacific Theatre from 1943 until being Honorably Discharged in 1946. He was united in marriage to Patricia Nordeen on August 31, 1946. Bob was employed by N.S.P. and XCEL Energy for 44 years before his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed playing volleyball, softball, and golf, and also fishing and hunting. Bob coached Little League baseball was active at the YMCA, VFW, American Legion, Red Wing Country Club, and Mississippi National Golf Links.
Bob is survived by his wife Pat Olson of Red Wing; sons Mark (Priscilla) Olson of Framingham, MA and Tom (Anne) Olson of Houston, TX; daughter Anne Olson (Tim DeBooy) of Eugene, OR; granddaughter Lily Olson; and brother C. Vernon (Eleanor) Olson of Boise, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2008 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of services at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Red Wing with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Leo C. Peterson Post #54 of Red Wing. Memorials preferred to United Lutheran Church, Hedin Hartnagel Scholarship fund or donor's choice. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel is handling arrangements.
