Robert "Bob" D. O'Banion, 70, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at his home. He was born January 23, 1937 in Alden, Minnesota to Arthur and Dorothea (Stavanaugh) O'Banion and graduated from Faribault High School in 1955. He joined the US Navy in June of 1955 and served until he was honorably discharged in June of 1959. He married Patricia Balfe at St. Canice Church in Kilkenny, Minnesota. They lived in several places, including Faribault for 16 years, where he worked as the Park and Street Superintendent; Cannon Falls, where he held the same position for the city; and Red Wing, where they moved to in 1989. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator and had worked for Flueger Construction Company. After retiring, he and Patricia traveled throughout the U.S., where he was able to do volunteer work for a wildlife refuge in Arizona. Until recently, he and Patricia have resided in Wanamingo. He played a part in helping plan and maintain the Cannon Valley Trail. An environmentalist, he enjoyed biking, canoeing, snowshoeing and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Red Wing; three children, Heidi (William) O'Neil of Buckley, Washington, Jessie Johnson of Red Wing and Kevin (Anne) O'Banion of Wanamingo; 4 grandchildren and one sister, Patricia (Al) Roering of Nashville, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be Friday 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a memorial service at 7:30 p.m., and reception to follow, all at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Trigg Sellers, Tyler O'Banion, Olivia O'Banion, and Hilary O'Banion-Cheney.
