Bill Emmet Trainor

Bill Emmet Trainor, 70 of Red Wing, died Monday, March 9, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was diagnosed in 2003 with lung cancer that he overcame. He and his family were blessed with 12 more years before his cancer returned in June of 2014. He was born February 1, 1945 in Winona to James and Beatrice (Peterson) Trainor. He was baptized and a member, in his younger years, at McKinley Methodist Church in Winona. Following graduation from Winona High School, he served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era from 1965 until 1967. On December 20, 1969, he married Kay Grotjahn in Winona at St. Martins Lutheran Church. In 1974, the couple moved to Red Wing where Bill worked for 30 years at Dayco in Red Wing. He attended First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed going to Lake Wapogasset, fishing, the Minnesota Wild and traveling to Florida. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, including going their sporting events and school activities. Bill had a great sense of humor that was appreciated by both the young and old. He will be remembered for his quiet, strong commitment to his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; two children, Shannon Trainor of St. Paul, and Derek (Marie) Trainor of Red Wing; one granddaughter, Emily Trainor; one grandson, Jared Lexvold; Marie's children, Zach and Julian Volbrecht; five siblings, Doug (Kelly) Trainor of Rochester, Gary (Judy) Trainor of Greenville, TX, Brian Trainor, Marie Trainor, and Deb (Rick) Block, all of Winona and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at First Lutheran Church with Chaplain Kelly Adelsman officiating. Full military honors will follow the service. Urnbearers will be Jared Lexvold, Jon Christianson, Emily Trainor and Desi Linder. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
