Bill B. Thomas, 89, of Red Wing, died Friday, April 24, 2015 at his home. He was born on April 13, 1926 in Plainview, Texas, to E.B. and Claire (Wilson) Thomas. He graduated from Stanford University with a BA degree. He served in the US Navy from 1944-1946 during World War II. On June 13, 1953, he married Martha Hlavaty in Houston, Texas. For twenty years he worked as an accountant for Standard Products and Quickset in Illinois until his retirement. In March of 1996 they moved to Red Wing. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, USA throughout the years where he served as an elder, clerk of session, treasurer and sang in the choir, Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Stanford Alumni Association, Sons of the American Revolution and Kiwanis. He was an active recreational runner and marathoner for 25 years. He enjoyed choral singing, especially church choirs, Red Wing Singers and the Silvertones and also doing genealogy research of his family. He was a devoted family man and a good friend.
Survivors include his wife, Martha; one daughter, Dr. Claire Vicky Thomas of Red Wing; two sons, John B. Thomas of Red Wing and Brian W. (Karen) Thomas of Belvidere, IL; five grandchildren, David, Anna and William Ewart and Kevin and Laura Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Howard and son-in-law, David C. Ewart.
Memorial service will be Monday, May 4, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing with Rev. Dr David Reiter officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.
