Beverly Ann Blakstad

May 28, 1928 — April 19, 2015

Beverly Ann Blakstad, age 86, of Faribault, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at her home.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Minneola Lutheran Church in Minneola Township, Goodhue County. Pastor Hannah Bergstrom de Leon will officiate. Family will receive family and friends at the Mahn Family Funeral Home~Larson Chapel in Zumbrota on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 1-2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Minneola Lutheran Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Beverly's grandchildren.

Beverly Ann Borst was born on May 28, 1928, in Rock Elm ,Wisconsin, the daughter of Glen and Annabelle (Hovde) Borst. She attended school in the St. Paul area and graduated from Hill Murray High School in St. Paul, MN. She went to work downtown St. Paul at the First National Bank. She married Harold Blakstad in St. Paul and the couple made their home in the Zumbrota area and started farming in Minneola Township. After many years of raising her children, she started working at the Municipal Liquor Store in Zumbrota. She enjoyed attending the annual sister/brother Christmas bake of her children, Labor Day vacation at Lake Koronis in Paynesville, the Harry Golf Classic, playing cards, bird watching and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of he Zumbrota Ladies Auxiliary #5727. She began her membership under her husband, Harold Blakstad in 1956. She held the following titles: President, Secretary, Treasurer. She also served as Chairperson for Cancer Aid and Research. She served as a volunteer different times during her tenure. She was an advocate for blood donation. Beverly was a member of Minneola Lutheran Church.

Beverly is survived by her 8 children: Leanne (Don) Tangen of Sartell, MN, Susan (Paul) Haugen of Lutsen, MN, Greg (Paula) Blakstad of Zumbrota, Steven Blakstad of Zumbrota, Randi (Monty) Schaefer of Wanamingo, Janelle (Dave) O'Brien of Zumbrota, Amy (Rich Bauer) Redfield of Zumbrota and Vicky (Tylar) Hines of Wanamingo, 16 grandchildren: Kelly (Robin) Tangen, Michael (Tiffany) Tangen, Stephanie (Brent) Ruegemer, Anthony, Zachary and Malachi Haugen, Blake, Peyton and Owen Hilke, Jean Schaefer, Holly (Coty) Stoppel, Chalsie (PJ) Poncelet, Brittany (Josh) Arndt, Jennifer (Max) Jeanson, Corey and Sean Blakstad, 12 great-grandchildren: Casey and Samantha Tangen, Drew and Kyleigh Tangen, Cru and Kameryn Ruegemer, Maxim Haugen, Lexi and Mia Blakstad, Mason Stoppel, Tanner Poncelet and Clint Jeanson, one sister: Sharon (Don) Baechler of New Haven, CT and sister-in-law: Mary Borst of Bark River, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold on February 19, 2004, one brother: Gordon Brost and a great-grandson: Tucker Arndt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Beverly's name are appreciated to the Zumbrota Area Ambulance Association, Zumbrota and Wanamingo Fire Departments or the Minneola Lutheran Church.
