Beverle Joy Ekblad, 93, of Red Wing, died Monday at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born July 10, 1914 in Minneapolis to Ray and Blenda (Strandberg) Evans. At the age of five they moved first to Chisholm and then to Hibbing, MN. In 1926 she moved to Lake City. After graduating from Lake City High School in 1931, she took a Normal Training course. She taught three years at the Boston School in rural Wabasha County. Later she graduated from Paul's Beauty School in Minneapolis. She married Myron F. Ekblad on January 2, 1937. After several years of Beauty work, they farmed in the Red Wing area. In 1957 she returned to teaching school. She taught at the Vasa School 14 years and at Burnside School for seven years. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Winona State College in 1973. She retired from teaching in 1978. After retiring they spent their winters in Texas and Arizona. Myron died November 9, 1992. She was a member of Vasa Lutheran Church, the North Star Homemakers, volunteered for meals on wheels, and was 4H Club leader. She enjoyed music and golfing.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan (Wilburn) Powers of St. Cloud and Geraldine Raasch of Shoreview; one son, Thomas (Peggy) Ekblad of Red Wing; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl Evans of Milwaukee; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Myron; brother, Wayne Evans.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Vasa Lutheran Church with Reverend Michael Dobbins officiating. Burial will be at the Vasa Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Ekblad, Joe Krueger, Bill Powers, Jr., Dave Lantis, Dan Raasch and Rob Spies. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt, John and Scott Krueger, Jacob Spies and Eva Powers. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Memorials preferred to the church.
