Betty Jean Wallin, 80, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester. She was born on January 24, 1926 in Elmwood, Wisconsin to Lynn and Verta (Bunce) Taplin. She graduated from Prescott High School in 1944. She married Woodrow Wallin on November 30, 1945 in Ellsworth. They moved to Milwaukee for six months and then to Chippewa Falls for five years before moving to Red Wing in 1951. For 32 years she was employed at Red Wing Shoe Company, retiring in 1988. Woodrow died May 27, 2006. She was a member of United Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered at the Fairview Seminary Home and the Fairview Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, watching the Minnesota Twins and her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Dennis (Fay) Wallin of Hastings, Duane (Susan) Wallin of Diamond Bluff, Darnell (Cheryl Reding) Wallin of Hager City and Gloria (Jack) Reeck of Red Wing; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Faye Larson of Ellsworth; two brothers, Lynn Taplin of Ellsworth and Donald (Norma) Taplin of Ellsworth; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters, Leona Hilgert, Virginia Purfeerst, Donna Eggers, and Barbara Langer and three brothers Rex, Robert and Galen Taplin. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Scott, Darren, Carl Wallin and Jacob Reding. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Dena Long, Jennifer Stevenson, Jess VanKuyk, Mikki Reeck, Abby Villaran, and Lindsay Danks. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to donor?s choice.
