Betty L. Scheffler age 77 of rural Cannon Falls died of complications of cancer on Thursday afternoon, October 26, 2006 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, October 30, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Erich Westphal officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, October 29, 2006 from 2:00-5:00 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Betty Lou Windhorst was born on April 24, 1929 in Red Wing, MN to Albert and Florence (nee Haas) Windhorst. She spent her early years on the farm in Chester Township, Wabasha County. In the mid 1930?s her family moved to a farm in rural Goodhue. In 1943 the family moved to a farm near Hader. Betty graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1948. On August 11, 1950 she married Erwin Scheffler at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. They made their home and farmed in Goodhue County. In 1986 she started working at Decora in Zumbrota and worked there until it closed. She then started working for Foldcraft in Kenyon and retired from Foldcraft in June of 2005. Betty was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota and enjoyed many things, especially farming, flower gardening, baking, sewing, her job at Foldcraft and her family. Betty is survived by her husband Erwin, sisters in law, Dorothy Kvam and Verona Windhorst both of Zumbrota, brothers in law, Karl (Jane) Scheffler of Zumbrota and Caroll Sperger of Red Wing, four children, Connie Ronningen of Pine Island, Linda Scheffler of Rochester, Diane (Dale) Olson of Zumbrota and Wes (Maureen) Scheffler of Cannon Falls, eight grandchildren, Matt, Mariah and Mandy Ronningen, Derek, Darin and Danielle Olson and Craig and Kelsey Scheffler, one great grandson, Corey Ronningen, one great granddaughter, Skylar Olson, nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Daniel, Melroy and James Windhorst, and one sister, Marcella Sperger. Casketbearers are her grandchildren; Honorary Bearers are Elaine Kraling, Suzann Wolkenhauer, Christine Soltau, Evie Kunde and Melissa Schuler. The family suggests memorials to Christ Lutheran Church.
