Betty Mae Alice Hanson, age 79 of Red Wing died Friday, November 14, 2008 at Potter Ridge Assisted Living in Red Wing. She was born August 18, 1929 in Buffalo County, WI, to Harley and Violet (Worley) Golden. She graduated from Durand High School, received a teaching certificate from Alma Normal School, and earned her Master's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin River Falls. On July 28, 1951 she married Boyd Hanson at First Methodist Church in Durand. They lived in Wisconsin until 1963 when they moved to Red Wing. She taught 3 years in Wisconsin schools and 25 years in Red Wing. Boyd died October 6, 1993. Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church of Red Wing where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with children and grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters, Belinda (Bruce) Robinson of Bloomington, IL, Beverly Hanson of Rochester; sons, Brian (Annie) Hanson of Richfield, Barry (Cindy) Hanson of Hastings; grandchildren, Erin Robinson of Bloomington, IL, John Robinson of Bloomington, IL, Katherine Hanson of Minneapolis, Emily Hanson of Minneapolis, Denton (Liza) Hanson of St. Paul, Justin Hanson of Hastings, Isaac Hanson of Madison, WI; brother, Howard (Dorothy) Golden of Brookings, SD, brother in law, Reuben (Marjorie) Hanson of Chicago, IL, sister in laws Bernice Johnson of Villa Park, IL, Ruby Hanson of Wheaton, IL, and Virginia Hanson of Red Wing. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday November 19, 2008 at Lund Covenant Church with Reverend Greg Satterberg officiating. Burial will be in the Marie Lund Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to cardiovascular research at the Mayo Clinic.
