Betty J. Froyum

d. June 19, 2009

Betty Jean Stevens was born December 19, 1923, in St. Charles, MN, to Minnie (Busher) and James Stevens. Following graduation from St. Charles High School, she worked in filing at Mayo Clinic. Betty married her Army beau, Walter "Wally" Arnold Froyum on October 19, 1946, at Lands Lutheran Church. They first lived in Marion and then Janesville. In 1955, they moved to Wanamingo and 2 years later moved to the Froyum family farm. She worked as a nurses' aid and in the office at Zumbrota Community Hospital for many years and in 1994, they moved to Wanamingo.

Betty enjoyed Wally, her family, making ceramics, traveling, collecting anything with roosters and owls, getting her hair done, and having coffee with friends. Any time the chance arose, she loved socializing and going to events and parties. Betty made "mean" greenbean and baked bean hotdishes that her family loved, and her chocolate cherry bars became famous. Because Betty loved athletics, she spent many Fridays and Saturdays watching her boys play ball. She also dedicated many hours to Women of Lands and Rachel Circle, Goodhue County Home Council, Goodhue County 4-H and as an election judge.

Our beloved Betty passed away June 19, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She is preceded in death by her son Val, parents, brothers Lyle "Bud" and Robert, and two infant siblings.

She is survived by sons Dale (Lona) and Eric (Lorraine); grandchildren Dustin (Melanie), Kris (Kristina), Carissa (Adam), Jacob (Naomi), Jill, and Seth; great-grandchildren Annika, James, Xavier, Isak, and Autumn; and a large extended family.

A gathering in honor of Betty will be Wednesday, June 24, 6-8 PM at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. A celebration-of-life service at Lands will be Thursday at 2 PM, followed by fellowship and a luncheon. Arrangements are by Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel (Zumbrota).

Memorials are suggested to the family or Lands Lutheran Church.
