Betty F. Anderson, 98, died at her home in Rochester, MN on August 24, 2011. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 205 N. Prospect Ave., Park Ridge, IL in October.
Elizabeth (Betty) Marie Feddersen was born on May 27, 1913 in Davenport, IA. She graduated from Columbus Junction High School in 1930 and received a BA in history with honors from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1934. She taught elementary school, first in Jessup, IA and then in Highland Park, IL, where she met her future husband, Samuel L. Anderson. They were married on August 3, 1940 in Chicago.
The Andersons moved to Park Ridge, IL, in 1941, where Betty was a very active volunteer in the community. Known for her high energy, outgoing personality, sense of humor, and compassion for the underprivileged, she volunteered for many organizations in the Chicago area, often in leadership positions. Betty was devoted and fiercely loyal to her family, her friends and her church. She was passionate about lifelong learning and loved reading on many subjects and keeping up with current events and politics. She was an avid card-player (bridge and later Kings in the Corner) and also loved working in her garden, classical music, needlepoint, sewing, a good joke, international travel and enjoying good food in the company of family and friends. She was a longtime member of the PEO Sisterhood.
Betty lived in her Park Ridge home until 2001, when she moved to a senior complex in Des Plaines, IL. She moved to Rochester in 2004 to be near family.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Deborah (H. James) Jacobsen of Rochester and Karen (Barry) Miller of Bernville, PA; five grandchildren: J. Bruce (Meghan) Kimmel (Minneapolis), Jill Jacobsen (Tabernash, CO), Jennifer Jacobsen (Woodbury), Sarah Jacobsen (Roseville, MI) and Joshua (Beth) Miller (Oyster Bay, NY); six great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, and her son, Paul.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Shorewood Senior Campus and Comfort Home Health Care, especially those in the Reflections unit, for their loving care of Betty. Also, thank you to Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care during the final weeks of her life.
