The funeral service for Betty J. Copler will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Mahler Chapel in Pine Island with Reverend Leonard E. Pankuch officiating. Private family interment will be at a later date.
Betty J. Copler, 73, of Pine Island died Friday, January 23, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Betty Jane Hellerud was born February 19, 1935 in Hills, MN to Henry and Eva (Goodwin) Hellerud. She graduated from Hills in 1953, during school she worked as a waitress at her parent's café in town. After school she moved to Sioux Falls, SD where she worked as a telephone operator. She married Robert "Dean" Copler on December 27, 1955 in Hills, MN. Dean was a career Navy man which moved them to many locations including San Diego, CA, Key West, FL, Norfolk, VA, Athens, GA, Guam, Yuma, AZ, North Kingstown, RI, and after Dean's retirement Pine Island. Dean passed away in November of 1979. Betty worked at Target in Rochester for more than fifteen years in the customer service department. She was a member of the Charles Cowden Legion Post #184 Auxiliary and The Pine Island Historical Society. She enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzles, and especially attending all of her children and grandchildren's activities.
She is survived by two daughters, Robbie Copler of Byron, Lori Copler of Brownton, MN; son, Jeff (Becky) Copler of Byron; grandchildren, Jessica Copler of Rochester, Matthew Copler of Byron, Meghan Copler of Byron; brother, Robert (Jeannie) Hellerud of Hills, MN; sister, Eleanor Sargent of Luverne, MN; sister-in-law Dora Hellerud of Mazzepa; brother-in-law, Daryl Copler of Marion, IA; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dean Copler; brother, Gale Hellerud; granddaughter, Mee Soo.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and one hour prior to the service Tuesday. Memorials are preferred.
