Bettie L. (Cottner) Lewis, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at her home at Deer Crest. Bettie was born November 28, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri. She met the love of her life, Vic Lewis, in St. Louis while he was on leave, serving our country during WWII. On July 16, 1943 they were united in marriage and moved to Hayfield, MN. Together they raised four children. They moved to Red Wing in 1960. She worked as cook at several of the local health care facilities. Bettie was a voracious reader and avid gardener who loved music, dancing, cooking and travel. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She moved to Deer Crest in 2013 after the loss of her husband. She enjoyed taking art classes and was very proud of her artwork which was featured in the Ebenezer calendar in both 2014 and 2015. She also enjoyed spending time with her new friends at Deer Crest.
Bettie is survived by two children, Kevin Lewis and Jackie Brenne, both of Red Wing; grandchildren, Gina, Mike and Christopher Leonard, Michelle Stravens, Rob and Jeremy Linder, Hannah Bell, Marissa Tegels and Nick Brenne; 13 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one brother, John Hatchell of St. Louis; and Joe Golay of Corvallis, MT. She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor; two daughters, Victoria Longsdorf and Sonya Baltz; sons-in-law, Mike Longsdorf, Duane Brenne and Orville Baltz; grandson, Michael Longsdorf; granddaughter, Kristin; two sisters and one brother.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m., Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Titusdahl officiating. Private family burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
