Bessie "Midge" Amy Belinda Ernst

Midge Ernst, age 92, of Eyota passed away peacefully Monday, December 16th, 2019 at Country Cottage Senior Living in Plainview.
Bessie Amy Belinda Larrabee was born May 13, 1927 in Camp Crook, SD, the daughter of Frank and Lottie (Wickum) Larrabee. Midge's childhood years were spent in Vale and Belle Fourche, SD. She graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1945. Following graduation, her family moved to Eyota, Minnesota. Midge worked as a secretary at Mayo Clinic until her marriage to Layton Ernst on September 30, 1950. Layton and Midge shared 34 years together on the farm in rural Eyota. Following Layton's death in 1984, Midge acquired a job at the US Postal Service and retired in 1997.
Among her many joys was spending time with family, tending to her rose garden, and bird watching. She especially enjoyed family vacations to Shell Lake, WI.
Midge is lovingly survived by her children, Greg (Joan) Ernst of Elgin, Paula (Tom) Ferrier of Dover, Sharlene (Jim) Allen of St. Charles, Roxette (Lynn) Johnson of Elgin, and Clint (Lynn) Ernst of Rochester; grandchildren, Danette and Derek Ernst, Brooke (Brian) Hasleiet, Tanner (Lexi) Ferrier, Drew (Nikki) Ferrier, Jeremy (Erin) Allen, Heidi (Matthew) Hawkins, Paige (Aaron) Miller, Danielle Johnson, Brittni (Chad) McKane, Corree (John) Stamschror, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Midge was preceded in death by her husband, Layton; her brother, David and sisters Nina and Amy.
A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00, prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Research. Online condolences are welcome and may be written at mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
