Bertha Mae Neiderhauser

April 6, 1918 — December 26, 2013

Bertha Mae Neiderhauser (Wurst), a loving and kind soul passed away December 26, 2013 at St. Brigid's of Hi Park in Red Wing. She was born April 6, 1918 at home in Oakwood Township near Plainview. Her parents were Clarence and Vivian (LaRock) Wurst. She attended country school District #43 at Plainview, through the 8th grade. They moved to Lake City in September, 1932 where she graduated from Lincoln High School. Bertha married Willard Neiderhauser of Spring Valley, Wisc. on December 20, 1951 at the United Methodist Church in Lake City. Bertha and Willard made their home in several places through the years, including Spring Valley, WI., Red Wing, Maiden Rock, WI., Dixon, MO and finally settled on the farm in Lake City. From 1942 until 1946 she worked at the Red Wing City Hospital in the kitchen and sometime after, helped in the hospital. For a short time in 1947 she worked at the Red Wing Knitting Mill. She then worked for four years at the Singer Sewing Machine Center in Red Wing as a bookkeeper and salesperson. She was later a bookkeeper at the Red Wing Marigold Dairy. Following that she worked for six years at Smeads Manufacturing Co in River Falls, Wisc. Then, for 16 years, she worked at the Red Wing Shoe Company in the office, most of the years, as a bookkeeper. Finally, from 1988 to 2001 she cleaned houses for others. Bertha enjoyed vegetable gardening, flowers, sewing and making scrapbooks, including a large stamp collection. Bertha loved being with family, always keeping the family tree up to date. Bertha was a true friend who visited all of her homebound friends frequently, lending a caring ear to all.
Bertha is survived by her husband Willard, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Maurice, Robert, Howard, Arnold, Willis and Gilbert Wurst.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 2 at the United Methodist Church in Lake City with Rev. Lyle Krumrie officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Wednesday, January 1 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel, Lake City and one hour prior to the service at church.
