Berta O. Rupietta

Berta O. Rupietta, 93, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Fairview Seminary Home. She was born June 28, 1915 in Germany, to Johan and Julia (Gaslona) Schiminowski. She married Emil Rupietta on March 5, 1955 in Germany and they moved to the United States in January of 1957. They resided in Red Wing where Emil's brother had been living, and she had worked at St. John's Hospital. She and Emil did upholstery work, made homemade wine and they enjoyed entertaining for friends in her home. Emil died July 22, 1987. Berta was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and she enjoyed doing seamstress work and gardening.

She is survived by two brothers, Willi and Fritz Schiminowski, a nephew Eric Rupietta and other nieces and nephews, all in Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband and 4 siblings, including 2 brothers that died in WW II.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Reverend Todd Engel officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Detlef Bordthauser and June Olson, John and Doris Kohrs, John and Vicki Riester and Elwin and Wanda Amyx. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the church.
