ROCHESTER - Bernice Kolling, 90, formerly of Rochester, and Spring Valley, MN, died Friday (July 13, 2012) at the Zumbrota Health Center in Zumbrota, MN.
Bernice Ruth Walker was born Jan. 4, 1922 in Deshler, Nebraska to Cleveland and Frieda (Kreisler) Walker. She was raised, and graduated from High School in Deshler. On July 11, 1941 she married William Kolling in Deshler. The couple lived there until 1955 when they moved to Spring Valley, MN where William was the Superintendant of Public Utilities, Bernice was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband died in November of 1998, and Bernice moved to Rochester where she lived at Shorewood Place until January of 2012 when she moved to the Zumbrota Health Center. She was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester. Bernice enjoyed knitting and reading, and was an avid Twins, Vikings, and Cornhuskers fan.
Survivors include her son, Bill (Judy) Kolling of Zumbrota; her daughter, Deb Hawkins of Kasson, MN; grandchildren, Brian (Darlene) Kolling, Bruce (Kimberly) Kolling, Aaron (Toni) Kolling, Matt (Cheyenne) Kolling, Mike Hawkins, and Mandy (Bryce) Moon; great grandchildren, Adam Kolling, Sarah Kolling, Tyler Kolling, Olivia Kolling, Aspen Kolling, Paisley Kolling, Mason Kolling, Caisa Kolling, Callie Kolling, Mason Hawkins, MaryJean Hawkins, and Lily Moon. Her husband, and her son Jeff, preceded her in death.
The memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Zumbro Lutheran Church with Rev. Vern Christopherson officiating. Burial will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Valley. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Mayo Foundation for Alzheimer's Research.
