Bernice Ehlen, 98 of Red Wing, died Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Seminary Home. She was born June 14, 1916 in Haycreek Township, daughter of John and Laura (Klair) Fitschen. She attended Belvidere Schools and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1934. She was confirmed in Frontenac, MN. After school, she went to teacher training, and then taught at the Belvidere High School. On September 11, 1937, she married Willard Ehlen in Frontenac. She worked as a homemaker until her children were grown, and then she began working for Kahler News Agency. She began working for Riedell Shoes where she worked for the next 15 years. Bernice was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Goodhue. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bernice is survived by her two daughters, Ruth (Lonnie) Ringeisen and Jean (Curt) Callstrom, both of Red Wing; 9 grandchildren, Lori Rebers, Juli (Steve) Schoonmaker, Kari (Jim) Basa, Katherine Ehlen, Nancy (Stanley) Majerus, Brad (Sue) Ringeisen, Rob (Shelly) Ringeisen, Tom (Lynette Benitt) Ringeisen, and Daniel (Tamara) Callstrom; 15 great-grandchildren, Anthony and Andrea Rebers, Sara Schoonmaker, Kristi and Kelly Basa, Tyler, Ryan, Adam, Kelli, Sarah, Laura, Megan, and Sydney Ringeisen, Camden and Allison Callstrom; 1 sister-in-law, Marian Fitschen; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; 1 son, James Robert Ehlen; 3 brothers, Maynard, Floyd, and Arthur Fitschen; and one sister, Erna Hanson.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Goodhue, with Reverend Randall Kuznicki officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
