Bernard "Bernie" Bissonette

A memorial service for Bernie Bissonette will be held on Thursday June 11th at 11:00 AM at Pax Christi Catholic Church in Rochester. The Rev. Msgr. Donald Schmitz will officiate. Mr. Bissonette, 83, of Rochester, died Sunday June 7, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary's campus in Rochester. Burial of Mr. Bissonette's cremated remains will occur at a later at Calvary Cemetery in Blue Earth.

Bernard 'Bernie' Jude Bissonette was born May 20, 1932 in Mankato, Minnesota to George and Loretta Bissonette. He grew up in Mapleton, and was a graduate of Crosier Seminary in Onamia. He attended DeVry College in Chicago, where he studied electronics. On October 8, 1955 he married Peggy Hund in Mankato. The couple lived in Saint Paul, moving to Bloomington in 1960, and then to Fridley in 1972. He worked at Univac in Saint Paul, Honeywell in Minneapolis, and Medtronic in Fridley, and retired after 25 years with Medtronic. The couple lived in Blaine from 2002 to 2005 when they moved to Epiphany Assisted Living in Coon Rapids. They spent several winters in Florida with friends, old and new. They have resided at Shorewood Place in Rochester since 2009. Bernie was a Lions' Club member for 27 years, and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Life Membership Award. He attended the Demontreville Jesuit Retreat annually for 35 years. He enjoyed playing card games of every kind with family and friends.

He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Tom Fladland) Bissonette of Baltimore, Maryland, and Becky Bissonette of Rochester; two sons, Brian Bissonette of Bemidji, and Robert Bissonette of Shakopee; five grandchildren, Dominic, Marie, Madison, Theodore, and Alexis; two brothers, Edward Bissonette of Hugo, and Mark (Sue) Bissonette of Stewartville. Also surviving are two dear friends, Nancy Orbell of Woodbury, and Marlene Bender of Maple Grove.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, in 2013; a brother, Art Bissonette; a sister, Mary Lynn Bissonette; and dear friends, Ray 'Tex' Orbell, and Glenn Bender.

A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Online tributes are being welcomed, and may be written at this website.
