Berdella Swee

Berdella J. Swee, age 88, of Zumbrota died on Monday, October 23, 2006 at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 27, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Dale Lutheran Church in rural Wanamingo with Reverend Michael Lockerby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Berdella Janet Grove was born on May 12, 1918 on the family farm in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue County, MN to Martin T. and Bertha (nee Lunde) Grove. She grew up on the family farm and attended District #86 country school in Cherry Grove Township. On November 2, 1941 she married Herman L. Swee at Dale Lutheran Church. They lived in Minneapolis for six years before moving to Pine Island in 1947. Berdella worked in the kitchen at the Pine Island schools for many years and in 1990 after forty three years in Pine Island, they moved to Zumbrota. Berdella was a member of Dale Lutheran Church and enjoyed cooking, baking, needlework and spending time with her grandchildren. Berdella is survived by two sons, Marlyn (Cathy) Swee of Rochester and Harley (Donna Tulip) Swee of Pepin, WI, four grandchildren, Michael Swee of St. Michael, MN, Mark (Tina) Swee of Rochester, Lori Swee of Frazee, MN and Bruce Swee of Dallas, TX, two great grandchildren, Terica Jeffrey of Hobbs, NM and Brittany Swee of Frazee, one great-great granddaughter,Brianna Jeffrey, one brother, Menton (Marilyn) Grove of Kasson, and two sisters, Arla Swee of Pine Island and Ruth (Richard) Lorentz of Plymouth. Berdella was preceded in death by her husband Herman, one daughter, Kathy Jo Swee, and two sisters, Ruth Walker and Burnette Beckstrom. The family suggests memorials to the Dale Lutheran Church.
