Berdeen M. Betcher age 90 of Mazeppa died on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Season's Hospice in Rochester. The funeral service will be on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church - Bear Valley. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Berdeen Mabel Luhmann was born on February 21, 1921 in Zumbro Township, Wabasha Co., MN to John J. and Alvina M. (nee Dammann) Luhmann. She grew up in rural Zumbro Falls and attended the Little Red School House in South Troy. On November 5, 1941 she married Vern. L. Betcher at Bremen Lutheran Church in rural Potsdam. They farmed on the Betcher family farm in rural Mazeppa. They retired from farming in 1986, but continued to live on the farm. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, milking cows, raising sheep and chickens, baking, hunting, fishing and clipping coupons from the newspaper. Berdeen was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa and its ladies aid. Berdeen is survived by her husband Vern, daughters, Marlis Jackson (Burton) Bode of Goodhue and Arlis (Harold) Archer of Zumbrota; son, Fred (Donna) Betcher of Mazeppa; grandchildren, Todd (Cheryl) Jackson of Lake City, Marie (Marc) Bode of Goodhue, Josie (Jamie) Banitt of Zumbrota, Jennie (Dale) Sweazey of Richville, Duane (Dawn) Archer of Zumbrota, Jason Archer of Kenyon, Sara Archer of Kenyon, John Archer of Zumbrota, Dee Anna (Craig) Linaman of Kenyon, Christina Betcher of Mazeppa, Jared Betcher of Mazeppa, Jessica (Pete) Banitt of Zumbrota, Casey (Shane) Holst of Mazeppa, and Joleen Jackson of Hager City, WI; step-grandchildren, Jason Bode of Ellsworth, WI, Lisa (Randy) Wickenhauser of Cologne, MN and Andrea (Thomas) Vann of Dodd Ridge, AR; twenty three great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; great-great-granddaughter Jazmine Sweazey; sister, Audrey Luhmann of Zumbro Falls; sisters-in-law, Frieda Williamson of Mazeppa and Margaret Luhmann of Zumbro Falls. Berdeen was preceded in death by daughter, Donna Mae Betcher; son, Ronald Raymond Betcher; mother, Alvina M. (Dammann) Luhmann; father, John J. Luhmann; brothers, Ehrenfried, Elmer, Johnny and Wilmer Luhmann; sisters, Milda Luhmann, Eleanor Lohmann and Marcella Greer; and great-granddaughter, Kyra Holst. Memorials preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church.
