Benjamin Morgan Lewis, age 91, a resident of Red Wing since 2007, formerly of Delaware, Ohio, passed away at Loving Residence on Friday morning, April 1. Ben was born on January 8, 1920 in Buffalo, NY the son of Harry Fletcher Lewis and Mildred Judd Lewis. Ben married Lois Maujer on September 10, 1942 shortly before leaving with the 7th Army Air Force for duty in the Pacific Theater during WWll. Ben graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio in 1941. After returning from the war Ben did graduate work at the University of Michigan receiving his MA in History in 1947, MA in Library Science in 1950, and PhD in Library Science in 1956. He worked as a librarian at Eastern Illinois University (1951-55) and as Director of Libraries at Hamline University (1955-64), Denison University (1964-66), and Ohio Wesleyan University (1966-83). While at Hamline Ben also served as the men's tennis coach. At Ohio Wesleyan he volunteered for many years as a beloved photographer for the women's basketball team. Ben enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and pursuing his love for photography. He also was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to classical music.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Mildred, brother Harry Jr., and sisters Jean and Helen. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lois of Red Wing, brother David (Katherine) of Medford Leas, NJ, children Gary (Leslie) of Wayland, MA, Robert (Marjorie) of Red Wing, Melia of Santa Fe, NM, grandchildren Tucker, David, Sara, Samuel and Gemina, and great-grandson Zachary.
