Beatrice Clara (Garson) Johnson died at St. Brigids on Monday, October 28, 2013. She was 92. Bea was born November 26, 1920 to Arup and Myrtle (Halverson) Garson in Blair, Wisconsin. She graduated from Blair High School in 1938 and attended Winona Business College in Winona, Minnesota. She worked for the Modern Life Insurance Co. (Home Office) in Winona for two years, after which she worked in the Branch Banks of Eleva and Strum, Wisconsin for one year.
She married Juneau Johnson on July 2, 1943. They lived in Eleva, Wisconsin for two years and Kenosha, Wisconsin for two years before moving to Red Wing in 1947. Juneau died December 16, 1995.
She was a member of United Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School for 25 years, was a Bethel teacher and active in many church activities.
She was a charter member of Lauris Norstad Lodge of Sons of Norway and a charter member of two other Norwegian societies, Solørlag and Romerkslag.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurel Frettem, of Rochester; her sons, Bruce (Sue) of River Falls, David (Linda) of Ellsworth, Randy (Catherine) of Red Wing and Warren (Joyann) of Bay City.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wendy (Mike) Lewis, of Rochester and their children, Molly and Christopher; Jeff (Liz) Johnson, of Hudson and their children, Megan and Kenzie; Brian (Susan) Johnson of Hudson, and their children, Andy, Lauren and Josh; Jenny (Kit) Luedtke of River Falls and their children, Evan and Ryan;
Jeremy (Nan) Johnson, of Cottage Grove and their children, Karleigh, Ryland and Hattie; Trevor (Christi) Johnson, of Prescott; Clara Johnson, of Shoreview; Reid Johnson of Red Wing; Brady (friend, Morgan) of St. Louis Park; Hilary (Matt) Thom of Pine Island; and Parker Johnson of Bay City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Juneau; granddaughter, Sara Frettem; son-in-law, Steve Frettem; and an infant brother.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Justin Boeding officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the West Beef River Cemetery in Strum, Wisconsin. Memorials preferred to United Lutheran Church Sunday School or the Red Wing Public Schools Foundation.
