Barbara Jean Vieths, 76, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at her home. She was born January 31, 1936 in Bellingham, Washington, to William and Elizabeth (Strahl) Patten. In 1954, she graduated from Bellingham High School and on July 23, 1955, she was united in marriage to Howard Vieths. They made their home in Red Wing, where he was originally from. In the 1970's she began working at Josten's, where she was employed until retiring in 1999, due to health reasons. She and Howard used to enjoy dancing and going to the casino together. Howard died in 2007. Family was very important to Barbara, especially seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time reading, doing puzzles and tending to her beautiful flowers. She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph and Leo C. Peterson Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by 3 children, Bill (Ann) Vieths of Miesville, Renae (Art) Hazeman and Pamela Vieths both of Red Wing; a special niece, Stacey Bjelland of Apple Valley; 10 grandchildren, Angela Hazeman, Ryan (Ashley) Hazeman, Alex Miller, Shaun Hazeman, Holly Hazeman, Christopher Vieths, Catie Vieths, Travis Vieths; Teresa Vieths and Marcus Christianson; 2 great-grandchildren, Alexa Hazeman and Andre Christenson; 2 sisters, Wilma Patten and Illa (Tom) Bjelland both of Oregon and 2 sisters-in-law, Ginger Ostander of South St. Paul and Muriel King of Anchorage, Alaska. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Church of St. Joseph, with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
