Barbara Blake Venhuizen age 90 of rural Rochester died on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the Pine Haven Care Center. The visitation will be on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island. A private burial will take place at Othello Cemetery in rural Douglas.
Barbara Blake was born on September 1, 1921 on the Blake family farm in New Haven Township, Olmsted County, MN to James and Ethel (Pike) Blake. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Rochester High School in 1940. She continued to help her parents farm and on April 4, 1949 she married Robert Venhuizen in Mantorville. Barbara was an active farmer her entire life on the Blake family farm in New Haven Township. Olmsted County with her husband Robert. Barbara retired to the Pine Haven Care Center in December of 2005 where she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, playing cards and bingo and caring for plants.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Lee) Arnett of Rochester, MN; son, William "Bill" (Violet) Venhuizen of Byron; grandchildren, Brian (April) Arnett of Simpsonville, SC, Erica (Louie) Boness of Byron, MN, Luke (Marie) Venhuizen of Rochester, MN and BJ (Holly) Venhuizen of Rochester, MN; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Noah Venhuizen of Rochester, MN.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Blake and husband Robert Venhuizen in 2008.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Othello Cemetery or the Pine Haven Care Center.
