Barbara Ann Smallbrock
November 18, 1922 — January 10, 2016
Barbara Ann Stiller Smallbrock, age 93 of Oronoco passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Pine Haven Care Center. The funeral service will be on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco with Pastor Benjamin Kempfert officiating. Burial will be in Oronoco Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Barbara was born on November 18, 1922 in on a small farm between Pine Island and Zumbrota, to Arthur and Ella (Loos) Stiller. When Barbara was thirteen the family moved into Pine Island, where her father operated a general merchandise store. She attended high school in Pine Island.
In the early 1940's Barbara purchased the Tiedeman Grocery in Oronoco. Barbara married Loren Smallbrock and they later divorced. She raised her four children on her own. She became the Oronoco postmaster and held that position for forty two and a half years.
Barbara was active in the incorporation of Oronoco into a city and served as its first clerk. She also served two terms on the Oronoco Planning Commission, served as its Secretary, served on the Building Committee and was active in the organization of the Oronoco Area Historical Center, serving as its President for several years.
Barbara is survived by her children, Arthur (Barbara) Smallbrock of Barrett, MN, Madeleine Dunford of Fergus Falls, MN and Myron (Rhalene) Smallbrock of Rochester; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Marshall Smallbrock; grandson, Victor Dunford; four sisters, Ruth, Joyce, Deloris and Betty and her parents, Arthur and Ella.
Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church or Oronoco Area History Center.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island.
