OBITUARY: Barbara Marie Sharpen


Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara Marie Scharpen will be at 11 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Zumbrota with Father Timothy Dolan officiating. Active casketbearers will be Steve Heintz, Larry Suennen, Scott Scharpen, Ross Crow, Erica Storandt and Cristal LaCanne. Honorary casketbearer will be Jim Suennen. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 6-9 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM.

Barbara, age 64, died on Monday, April 14, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She was born on May 12, 1943 in Barron, WI to Alfred and Leona (Suennen) Heintz. She attended school at Sacred Hearts School in Almena, WI and graduated from Barron High School. She worked for Remington Rand Univac in St. Paul as a keypunch operator and on July 23, 1966, she married Lyle Scharpen in Almena. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Rochester where Barb worked for Whiting Printing Co. They moved to Zumbrota and Barb worked for Zumco and Zumtop. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and was also a member of the TOPS Club. She enjoyed bird watching, traveling, trips to the casinos and her grandchildren.

Barb is survived by her husband, Lyle, of Zumbrota, MN; two sons: David (Patti) Sharpen, of Wabasha and Kenneth (and his fianc? Teryl Wouters) of Rochester; two grandchildren: Alex and Zach Sharpen, of Wabasha; two sisters: Dorothy Heintz, of St. Paul and Marjorie (Michael) Westling, of Eagan; one brother, Kenneth Heintz, of New Richmond, WI; one niece, Lauren Westling and one nephew, Blake Westling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Leona, and one grandson, Colin Sharpen.
