Barbara Jones

Barbara R. Jones died peacefully at Fairview Red Wing Hospital on November 3, 2007. She was a devoted wife, mother and mother in law who cared deeply for her family. She was an unselfish philanthropist as one of the founding board members of The Jones Family Foundation in 1987. Her particular focus in her charitable work was for those in poverty and for people who were having difficulty meeting basic family needs.

She was an avid reader, bridge player and golfer but was forced to give up those pursuits as she lost her sight to macular degeneration in 1999.

She served as an assistant to the superintendent of schools in Red Wing during the early 1940s. Later she served as secretary of Christ Episcopal Church in Red Wing.

She was born in Cumberland, Wisconsin on April 15, 1916 to Mabel & Henry Hemmingson. She moved to Red Wing in 1928 and graduated from Central High School in 1934. She married Ora G. Jones in 1943 and had one son, Scott (Anne) in 1944.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Mabel and Iola) and her husband, Ora in 2000.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 7th, with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the steps of the chancel at Christ Episcopal Church. Private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Barbara Jones Special Needs Fund of the Jones Family Foundation.
